Ng Woon Lam in American Watercolor Society AWS 140th International Show 2007

I just joined the dinner and ceremony of American Watercolor Society (AWS) 140th International Juried Show 2007. Below is the image of my selected painting and me in the show. This is the most important watercolor show in the nation. I am so glad to be selected the second time.

I saw many of my long admired watercolor artists' original artwork. It is a rare opportunity to see so many excellent watercolor paintings in one show. The show runs from late March to late April yearly at Salmagundi Club, 47, 5th Ave, NYC, New York. If you are in New York during this period, don't forget to check it out.

I like the freshness of watercolor.John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer are my heroes in watercolor painting.The medium was controlled and executed to its extreme freshnesswith courage and 100% confidence and 100% art skills + visual knowledge.How did I learn watercolor painting. Simple!! I slept with Sargent. Hahaha!!!I had 2 Sargent's painting books. For 2 years, I read them before I went to bed.Sometimes, I slept with them.

My new small watercolor painting. I like paint with wet in wet followed by some dry brush strokes with loaded paint. Some much fun painting with a lot of paint. Loaded brush strokes allow me to paint decisive watercolors without overworking.

Ng Woo Lam Watercolor Update:
This is my new watercolor done in Nov 2006

I first worked very dark but leaving out some white for tonal contrast. I design the figures by working on positive and negative edges together.

After getting the darkest tones, I worked out some mid tones to generate
the mode of the image.

Finally, I depicted some details of my subjects to enhanced the image.
